BEHIND THE MAP

A galaxy of the web.

Web Map shows one million popular website domains as stars in a spiral galaxy. Larger circles represent higher-ranked websites, and the most popular domains sit closest to the center. Colors identify domain extensions, such as .com, .org and .net.

The map combines different open sources: Tranco, Cloudflare Radar, Majestic GlobalRank, Common Crawl Harmonic Centrality and Common Crawl PageRank, and others. Together, they provide a broad view of website popularity across the web.

Find a website

Search for a domain or paste a website URL, then choose a result to move smoothly to its star. Select a circle to see its name, Web-Map rank, and Common Crawl Harmonic Centrality and PageRank ranks. The domain link opens the website in a new tab.

Explore the galaxy

Drag the map to move around. Scroll or use + and − to zoom through six levels; double-click to zoom in. On a touch screen, drag with one finger and pinch to zoom. Fit whole map shows the entire galaxy; Reset view clears your selection and returns to the starting view.

Minimize the explorer to make more room for the map. It folds to the left on desktop and to the bottom on mobile. Use the arrow on its strip to reopen it.

Discover nearby ranks and extensions

Rank neighbors lists up to five websites before and five after the selected rank. Choose one to move to its star. Select an extension color to highlight that group, or use Explore all extensions to find another one. Clear a highlight with its × button.

Keyboard shortcuts: press / to open the explorer and search. With the map focused, use the arrow keys to pan, + and − to zoom, and Home to fit the galaxy.
